Ericsson acquires NodePrime, enhances data center management capabilities

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has acquired NodePrime, a San Francisco-based data center management startup, enhancing its efforts to help service providers configure and manage data center hardware.

Other than saying the acquisition will be paid in cash, the specific terms of the deal were not revealed.

Ericsson will integrate NodePrime's technology into its Hyperscale Datacenter System 8000 platform. NodePrime will become part of its Business Unit Cloud & IP.

Hyperscale's software platform enables discovery, analysis and automated configuration of existing and new data center hardware platforms. This allows data centers to scale up and adopt distributed infrastructure.

By acquiring NodePrime's skillsets and platform, Ericsson said it can reduce sourcing risk and secure control of roadmap direction and acceleration.

The NodePrime's platform enables any datacenter to migrate to hyperscale infrastructure by starting from where they are.

"Serving as the brain of the software-defined infrastructure, the platform represents a huge power shift for service providers to make data-driven decisions about how they purchase, scale and create their ideal infrastructures," said Ericsson in a statement.

While the deal is new, Ericsson and NodePrime are hardly strangers. In addition to already leveraging NodePrime's platform, Ericsson was one of several investors that participated in a $7 million seed funding round for the company last September.
