Ericsson continues OSS buying spree with GEOSS deal

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) is moving to purchase Germany-based operations support systems (OSS) consulting company GEOSS, a move that it says will further strengthen its position in providing OSS products for service providers.

By making this deal, Ericsson will be able to apply GEOSS' set of consultancy, systems development, systems integration and operational support to new OSS deals it wins.

Specifically, the GEOSS acquisition will immediately deepen Ericsson's presence in Germany, a country where large operators such as Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone are making large upgrades of their networks.

With a presence in Darmstadt, Düsseldorf, Munich and Stuttgart, GEOSS specializes in creating and developing high-performance systems for the configuration and monitoring of IP networks (Network Near Assurance), and supports German wireline and wireless operators in their transition to all-IP networks.

Stephan Weber, managing director at GEOSS, says the benefits of the deal include a broader channel, which includes customers in 180 countries, to sell their products. "We are excited about the prospect of joining Ericsson, as their global scale would enable us to lend our expertise to a much broader array of customers."

Terms of the acquisition were not revealed. Ericsson expects to close the purchase after clearing regulatory approval and will take over the entire staff and management of 30 people.
