Ex-Nortel employees find life outside tech industry

Tools

To say Nortel's workforce has had a tough year would be an understatement. Some ex-Nortel employees, who have been laid off too many times due to the poor economy and the company's bankruptcy proceedings, have decided they have had enough of the telecom and the technology market.

An article in Canada's Globe and Mail profiled ex-Nortel employee Denis Levesque. After losing a technology job in Ottawa, Canada, he quickly found a new position at Nortel--only to be laid off seven months later due to budget cuts. This prompted Levesque to consider a career change. He launched a consulting and career-coaching company not long after being let go from Nortel.

But these career changes come with a price. While it's encouraging that Levesque and others can reinvent themselves as entrepreneurs, it also shrinks the technology industry's talent pool.

Do you think anyone really cares about VCS?

198 VCS-Verizon Connected Solutions copper technicians are due to be laid-off this Saturday 12/19/09. Why isn't there anything posted on this site about this,or did I miss something ?

I am Ex Nortel ( MEXICO) I can not find work since March that I was fired.
Ericsson does not give me work because I do not know brand Ericsson. The same thing with NOKIA, etc. ¡¡¡Nobody wants to hear from Ex Nortel workers.¡¡¡
¡¡¡Nobody is asking to support the brand nortel projects¡¡¡¡
Who are abandoned by already fired all of us engineers.
So the question is what we need to do the Ex Nortel to Ericsson hire us? or Nokia? or Avaya? Ciena?

Otherwise we will work to find bus driver job?????
In Mexico city bus driver get 230 dollars monthtly with 12 hrs a day

Unfortunately this is a true waste the talent of many engineers laid off from Nortel USA, MEXICO, CANADA, etc.

¡¡¡That perhaps no one cares¡¡¡
