EXFO to acquire IPTV tester Brix Networks

Tools

EXFO is the new busy bee in the telecom M&A circle. The test equipment vendor has moved to acquire IPTV testing specialist Brix Networks for about $28.5 million, barely one week after agreeing to acquire VoIP testing firm Navtel Communications. The Brix deal may balloon to $37.5 million if Brix meets financial performance conditions after the deal closes. The IPTV testing market is already a hotly-competitive sector with the likelihood for more carrier deals still to be announced. It includes a variety of focus areas, from lab testing to transmission monitoring to actual video quality and user experience assessment. Meanwhile, EXFO seems bent on joining the Agilents, Spirents and Tektronixes of the world as a large test vendor with broad network and service applicability.
