FairPoint to face NH lawmakers this week

Tools

New Hampshire's telecom regulators aren't the only ones that want to get insight into FairPoint's issues in New England as the state's lawmakers also want answers. Today, New Hampshire lawmakers are going to hold a meeting with the bankrupt service provider.

Although lawmakers form Maine and Vermont were supposed to come to the meeting, those states will hold their own separate meeting with the service provider.

Sylvia Larsen, president of the New Hampshire Senate, told the New Hampshire Union Leader that they are worried about the "long-term viability of our telecommunications system."

After it could not make a major debt payment due to lack of funds, FairPoint filed for Chapter 11 protection--so far failing to overcome issues with the lines it acquired from Verizon in New England.

Why would all the states meet separately now? It seems like everyone keeps changing their mind on what to do. Fairpoint even changed how it was doing the bankruptcy and now the states cant decide how to meet? It seems like they would solve their problems faster by having ONE meeting, not three.
