FairPoint names John Lunny as CTO
FairPoint (Nasdaq: FRP) did not have to look too far to find its new CTO as the telco has promoted John Lunny, senior vice president of network planning and engineering communications to the new post.
Lunny will now oversee FairPoint's ongoing move to unite its fiber-based network, IT, engineering, provisioning, management and product development.
A 25-year telecom industry veteran, Lunny came to FairPoint in 2008 as director of sales engineering and was later promoted to vice president of network planning in 2009 and senior vice president of planning and engineering in 2010.
Before joining FairPoint, he was the was senior director of service delivery at Comcast Business Services and also spent 13 years at Level 3 Communications in operations, where he eventually became vice president of operations for the competitive provider's northeast region.
Among the many technology initiatives that Lunny has helped drive over the past five years has been the telco's fiber and IP/MPLS-based VantagePoint network, which is the foundation to deliver its growing suite of retail Ethernet services to businesses and service providers in New England.
In addition to business services, FairPoint has been in the process of expanding its broadband reach organically and through the FCC's Connect America Fund Phase I grants in New England and other regions it serves.
