FairPoint re-gains momentum in Vermont

Tools

FairPoint Communications earned new support in Vermont for its proposed $2.7 billion acquisition of Verizon Communications properties in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. By agreeing to spend $40 million on network upgrades during the next three years, and committing to make broadband service available to all of the customers in at least half of its markets, FairPoint gained the support of the Vermont Public Services Department. The deal still needs to be approved by the Vermont Public Service Board, which late last month rejected a version of the acquisition proposal that didn't include those commitments.

The deal hasn't yet been addressed in New Hampshire, but folks there have been busy with some kind of primary or something.
