FCC re-boots broadband discussion

The Federal Communications Commission yesterday opened a 60-day public comment period on the issue of national broadband expansion and policy. That comment period will be followed by a 30-day reply period. After that, of course, all of our broadband problems will be solved, right? Probably not.

The FCC, service providers, consumer groups and anyone else with an opinion should settle in for what will likely be a long, bumpy ride--though many would agree the ride will be made longer by the fact that the issue never has been so comprehensively addressed until now. Congress wants the FCC to produce a national broadband plan by next February.
