FCC set to tackle national broadband plan

The Federal Communications Commission is still awaiting a new chairman who has not yet been approved by Congress, but that isn't stopping the agency from starting this week to open the can of worms otherwise known as a national broadband policy. The FCC is expected to open public discussion this Wednesday on issues ranging from broadband mapping to speed requirements, open network sharing and more.

the result of these discussions potentially could mean more money for broadband expansion, but possibly also more rules by which broadband service providers must abide. The effort could take months, and will be going on even as broadband stimulus grants are awarded later this year.
