France Telecom acquires Cityvox

France Telecom announced that it has acquired Cityvox, which operates a Web site variously being described as a leisure guide or an urban listings guide. Sounds like fun either way, and the move looks like an effort by this telco to fight the "dumb pipe" label and get more intimate with the Internet audience that is using so much of its bandwidth. France Telecom previously has said that part of its Orange unit's ongoing strategy is to strengthen its ties to Internet users via portal sites.

Cityvox has more than 2.2 million unique monthly visitors and more than 350,000 regular contributors.
