Frontier brings aboard TWC veteran Collins to lead West region business sales, operations

Frontier Communications has named Craig Collins as the senior VP of commercial sales and operations for its West Region, the latest in a string of appointments to strengthen the management of its newly acquired properties from Verizon (NYSE: VZ) in California, Florida and Texas -- areas that were fraught with various setbacks.

In his new position, Collins will oversee Frontier's commercial business development and expansion initiatives for California, Oregon and Washington from the company's West Coast headquarters in Southern California.

He will report to Melinda White, president of Frontier's West Region.

Collins arrives with competitive intelligence from the cable industry. Before joining Frontier, Collins served as the president of business services for Time Warner Cable's western region. In that position, Collins provided strategic direction and operational management for sales, marketing, product management, customer care and service delivery to small, medium and large businesses.

Besides his experience at TWC, Collins served as a co-chair of the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing and a board member of the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications.

Collins' appointment comes at a key time for Frontier. Following its acquisition of Verizon's wireline assets in California, Florida and Texas, Frontier customers suffered downtime due to what the telco said was incorrect data it received from Verizon.

On the plus side, Frontier can now also leverage the new copper and fiber assets, including FiOS, to target more local business customers that Verizon may have let go of in the past.

Collins isn't the only executive to recently join Frontier. The service provider also named Jacqueline R. Kinney as vice president of state government affairs for California and rehired Michael Saperstein, Jr. as vice president of regulatory affairs.
