Frontier, CWA union ratify new 5-state contract for Midwest employees
Frontier Communications (Nasdaq: FTR) and the Communications Workers of America (CWA) have finalized a new five-year union contract covering over 1,100 employees in five Midwest states after seven months of negotiations.
The new contract will expire in February 2017 and covers employees in Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan.
Ohio has 574 employees that are CWA union member. Local chapters 4371, 4372, 4373, 4375, 4377, 4378, 4379, and 4385 mainly represent technicians serving customers throughout the state along with almost 300 workers at the telco's call center and state headquarters in Marion.
Dave Davidson, senior vice president and general manager for Frontier said "the contract will help Frontier remain competitive and enhance customer service while continuing to provide good wages and benefits to its union employees."
Frontier has been making ongoing progress with its union workers.
In September, the service provider ratified two labor contracts with the CWA for about 200 of its employees in Pennsylvania. Earlier, CWA employees in West Virginia held rallies at Frontier's state headquarters in Charleston and Fairmont.
