Frontier gets MEF CE 2.0 certification for Ethernet portfolio

Frontier Communications has become the latest service provider to gain the Metro Ethernet Forum's Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE 2.0) certification for its Ethernet solutions portfolio.

The service provider also has staff experienced in dealing with the rigors of CE 2.0 with 18 members of its staff being MEF-CECP (Carrier Ethernet Certified Professionals), 15 of whom are MEF-CECP 2.0 certified.

Like other service providers that have gained CE 2.0 certification such as Comcast Business, Frontier's CE 2.0 Services certification process included rigorous testing for each type of standardized Ethernet service (E-Line, E-LAN, E-Tree and E-Access) and encompassed more than 600 test cases.

Todd Wells, senior vice president of revenue strategy for Frontier, said in a release that "this highly regarded certification gives Frontier the ability to craft Carrier Grade Ethernet solutions that leverage industry standards and are tailored to a customer's unique business needs."

Already available in 28 states, Frontier said it plans to expand its Ethernet Solutions offerings by introducing various capabilities including multi-CoS (class of service), an SLA portal and 10G aggregation hubs where customers can purchase applications with complete assurance as to service and performance.

Ethernet continues to be a factor in Frontier's business services portfolio.

During the third quarter, the service provider said that the two growth contributors in the business segment were the expansion of Gigabit Ethernet services and Wi-Fi service contracts. The service provider said that Ethernet services sales rose 30 percent year-over-year.
