FTTH Council: 74% of SureWest customers are satisfied with its FTTH service

SureWest Communications' (Nasdaq: SURW) Fiber to the Home (FTTH) service, according to a new study by the FTTH Council, is resonating with their customer base with 74 percent of participants saying they were "very satisfied" with their service.

The independent ILEC, which serves both Sacramento, Calif. and the Kansas City, Kan. region through its acquisition of Everest Broadband, was one of the early FTTH pioneers when it began offering service in 2002 after purchasing the former Win First assets.

In its Sacramento ILEC area, SureWest currently passes 140,000 marketable homes with fiber.

Outside of its ILEC territory, SureWest passes 17,000 homes with FTTH with plans to pass an additional 10,000 in Olathe, Kan. in the second half of this year. Not surprisingly, SureWest's plans to expand its FTTH network in the Kansas City area come not long after Google announced its intention to bring its experimental 1 Gbps-capable FTTH network to the area.

As an ILEC, SureWest continues to deliver ADSL and ADSL2+-based services in its ILEC territory and HFC-based services in Kansas City.
