Genachowski appoints FCC managing director and general counsel
Newly appointed FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski is wasting no time getting his staff in order, as he has appointed Microsoft alum Steven Van Roekel as managing director and Austin Schlick as General Counsel. Van Roekel, an 18-year IT and management veteran, made a name for himself as an executive in Microsoft's Windows and Tools division, and prior to that he served as a strategist and assistant to company founder Bill Gates. Tasked with overseeing the FCC's operations, Van Roekel replaces acting managing director Mary Beth Richards, who was working under acting FCC chairman Michael Copps. Richards now becomes the special counsel to Genachowski on FCC reform.
Austin Schlick, who most recently served in the Maryland attorney general's office as chief of the civil division, is no stranger to the FCC. Shclick previously served in the FCC as the Deputy General Counsel for Litigation and as Acting General Counsel. Like Genachowski, Schlick also served as a law clerk under former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

The inept, absurd, and failed handling of the HDTV switch is NOT WORKING. For those of us who cannot afford cable or paying TV connections, the FCC has NOT CONSIDERED US AT ALL!! I was getting in Cottonwood AZ 86326 at least 10 to 15 good receptions via the Mingus antenna. Now since the switch-over, I get 3!!! (actually 5, but 2 are in Spanish, which I do NOT speak!).
I have tried everything, including phoning the numbers given me by the FCC line, with the result that they tell me I can get only 5 channels (3 of which I do NOT get in HDTV-- get only 2 and 7)
I need to know to whom I may write or speak to, because the FCC has provided no one for help closer than Phoenix, which is 2 hours away, and I can't transport my TV system, as I can't lift even the TV set at the age of 78! I even called our Town Hall, and they have no referrals AT ALL!
Please help me find help-- because I've lost my wonderful PBS which is nowhere to be found. This is the channel I usually watch exclusively because of it's intelligence and quality! What's a body to do?
