G.fast, VDSL gain market share in broadband CPE market, says research firm

Driven by deployments in China, North America and EMEA, a new report from IHS Infonetics revealed that DOCSIS 3.1 and G.fast will drive momentum to the cable and DSL CPE market segments.

"We expect both DOCSIS 3.1 and G.fast to help add momentum to the cable and DSL CPE market segments and FTTH to continue at its current pace, driven by deployments in China, North America and EMEA," said Jeff Heynen, research director for broadband access and pay TV at IHS, in a release.

As service providers continued to expand their wireline service capabilities to more users, the research firm said that worldwide broadband CPE revenue declined to $2.8 billion in the first quarter of 2015, while unit shipments stayed flat at 54 million. EPON and fixed LTE led the race as both segments saw double-digit percentage increases in unit shipments.

There were regional pockets of EPON ONTs and video for North American-based cable operators. Meanwhile, GPON ONTs and VDSL CPE vendors reported growth in Europe and Latin America. Release
