Great Plains Communications builds Nebraska-Iowa diverse 100G route

Great Plains Communications, a Blair, Neb.-based independent telco, has completed a diverse network route expansion stretching from Nebraska to Des Moines, Iowa, allowing it to more effectively address new wholesale service opportunities.

By making this expansion, the service provider can now address a larger set of customers while accommodating the needs of existing ones that want to extend their presence into Iowa.

"This latest expansion gives us the ability to serve new customers and provides greater opportunity for our current clients to broaden their business as well," said Lynn Mead, head of carrier and wholesale services, in a release.

Customers that reside along this route will be able to get access to a mix of low bandwidth Ethernet to 100G within its Nebraska territory and throughout the Plains region.

The route will extend from the Nebraska market into the Des Moines carrier hotel where it will connect with a host of regional and national service providers. Its Network Operations Center, which recently became the first belonging to a Tier 3 telco to become full TL9000-certified, will monitor the Iowa expansion along with its 5,000-plus mile network.

Having the TL9000 certification will give Great Plains a potential differentiator when it looks to attract new customers that want to extend their presence with the company.
