GVTC serves up 80 Mbps unlimited FTTH data service tier

Guadalupe Valley Telephone Cooperative (GVTC), Texas' largest telephone cooperative, is doubling the download and upload speed of its Fiber to the Home (FTTH) service to 80/20 Mbps.

Targeting rural communities including Texas Hill Country and rural communities north of San Antonio that AT&T does not reach with U-verse, GVTC's new speed tier follows its initial 40 Mbps service it introduced in December 2009.

Pricing for the new service is relatively competitive for users that are willing to pay for the higher speed. Users can purchase the 80 Mbps tier for $210 as a standalone service, but it is $205 or $200 if purchased as part of a double or triple play bundle.

Likewise, users that don't want or need 80 Mbps can still buy GVTC's 20/3 Mbps service ($75, $70, $65) and 40/10 ($100, $95, $90) packages. All of GVTC's speed tiers offer unlimited usage.
