Hargray Communications, a telco and cable operator, reported last night that a local power surge interrupted the cable TV service it provides in Beaufort and Jasper counties, South Carolina.

In Beaufort County, local electric utility SCE&G said in a Beaufort Gazette article that at one point Monday night, about 1,300 customers were without power.

Robert Gilbert, a spokesman for Hargray, said that a lightning strike caused a power surge that "knocked out the company's entire cable TV service."

Customers in eight South Carolina cities and towns, including Hilton Head, Bluffton, Beaufort, Okatie, Lady's Island, Ridgeland, Sun City, and Pooler, saw an interruption in their cable TV service.

During the night, the telco started to restore TV service. A number of customers said on its Facebook page that their service was restored.

However, as of this morning, the telco has not posted any additional updates on the status of its outage.
