Hawaiian Telcom employs Intrado for next-gen 911 services

Hawaiian Telcom (Nasdaq: HCOM) on Wednesday selected Intrado to upgrade its network infrastructure to provide next-generation 911 products and services to public safety answering points (PSAPs) and residents throughout the state.

The two companies, which have been working with one another for over seven years, said that the renewed partnership will hasten the deployment of advanced 911 capabilities to first responder agencies serving Hawaii's residents.

With over 300 of its systems having been either deployed or in the progress of being deployed, Intrado said that its advanced NextGen 9-1-1 product is an IP-based package that "provides improved reliability and more life-saving capabilities than traditional 911 systems."

"NextGen 9-1-1 provides the State of Hawaii with the foundation to provide many enhancements for our public safety emergency response teams, thereby assisting with advanced life saving communications capabilities for the public," said State of Hawaii Enhanced 911 Board Chair, Clayton Tom, in a release announcing the new partnership.
