Heat rises on TWC metered billing plans

Tools

Time Warner Cable's plans to expand metered-usage pricing for broadband Internet into several new markets continues to generate protest. A Web site called StopTheCap.com has cropped up, and The Wall Street Journal reports that in Rochester, N.Y., the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle is calling for TWC to explain itself. TWC's local competition in Rochester, Frontier Communications, has halted its own plans for metered billing, and also said it has received hundreds of calls from concerned TWC customers.

TWC doesn't seem overly concerned, and said the same thing happened when it introduced metered billing as a pilot project last year in Beaumont, Tex. In any case, the approach obviously was successful enough in Beaumont that the cable TV company is expanding it.
