HickoryTech to change name to Enventis, establish unified brand
HickoryTech (Nasdaq: HTCO) is taking another step toward becoming an IP-based services provider by aligning all of its products under its Enventis brand. The service provider plans to ask shareholder approval to change its corporate name to Enventis during its upcoming shareholder meeting in May 2014.
Enventis has been known as HickoryTech's business services subsidiary, which it has grown organically and through acquisitions--notably, IdeaOne, a purchase through which the telco gained 225 fiber route miles that are the foundation for a greater set of 3,600 consumer and business service customers.
One of the key drivers of the name change is to create a common look and feel for its residential and business customers. Already, HickoryTech operates under the Enventis brand in the Twin Cities, northern Minnesota, Rochester, Minn., Fargo, N.D., and Des Moines, Iowa, areas where the company has offices and local staff.
HickoryTech said it can now extend the Enventis brand to its operations in southern Minnesota and northwest Iowa where the telco provides residential and business services in 34 communities.
John Finke, president and CEO of HickoryTech, said in release that the name change reflects its ongoing transformation into a regional communications provider.
"The scope and scale of our capabilities has expanded, and so has the range of customers that will benefit from a partnership with Enventis," he said.
