Hitachi telecom unit to join with mothership

Japan's Hitachi plans to absorb its telecom subsidiary Hitachi Communication Technologies in an effort to seek tighter integration of operational and technical resources, and better overall financial promise for the corporate parent. The merger is set for July 1, and according to Light Reading Asia, could help revitalize Hitachi's Information & Telecommunications Systems unit, which has suffered from declining sales.
