Hoffman replaces Foster as head of MegaPath's cloud division

MegaPath has hired former Speakeasy COO Kurt Hoffman to be president and CEO of its cloud services division, replacing Dan Foster, who is leaving the company. Hoffman will report to CEO Craig Young and oversee the company's direct and channel sales, marketing, product development and operations.

Hoffman spent eight years as COO of Speakeasy but left just before the company merged with MegaPath and Covad in 2010. Most recently, he was COO of Layered Technologies, overseeing all the operations and technology groups within the company. Prior to that, he was COO of Hawaiian Telcom, where he handled product development, sales and marketing.

Last September Global Capacity acquired MegaPath's Network Services business unit, giving the company additional cash to invest in the firm's managed and cloud services businesses. At the time, Young told FierceTelecom that the company decided to focus on the cloud services and managed services because it believes those are high growth markets.

Interestingly, MegaPath's managed service and wholesale business was the product of various acquisitions, including Covad Communications and Speakeasy. Much of this business, however, was focused on providing wholesale copper-based Ethernet over Copper (EoC), DSL and T-1 services.
