Huawei spins a new OSS vendor contender

Tools

Huawei Technologies, the Chinese telecom vendor that has made such a huge impact on the global telecom hardware market in recent years, is spinning off its software properties, including operational support system components, to create a new, independent software firm. Huawei Software Technologies plans to pursue carrier deployment opportunities related to OSS, business support systems, service delivery platforms and similar jobs in what the OSS Observer says will be a $25 billion global software market by 2011.

The move comes as Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia Siemens Networks have been cultivating their own software efforts, and also as the OSS market in particular has experienced a wave of consolidation in which many smaller players have been gobbled up by the likes of Oracle and Amdocs, among others.
