Huawei stocks new optical box

Tools

At the the Broadband World Forum Europe in Brussels this week Huawei Technologies announced new optical gear, including a dense wavelength division multiplexing switch integrating 100 Gbps, 40 Gbps, reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer functions, optical transport network switching, and generalized multi-protocol label switching and automatically switched optical network control plane capabilities. Or, for those of you who speak only in acronyms: DWDM, 100G, 40G, ROADM, OTN, GMPLS and ASON.

Huawei also announced an optical edge aggregation box and a next-generation 10 Gbps GPON prototype. Some believe the latter technology could be an alternative to increasingly popular WDM-PON, though Huawei said it is evaluating both technologies.
