Huawei USA names Bill Gerski VP of sales, ramps Tier 3 telco focus
Huawei named telecom veteran Bill Gerski as the new VP of sales for its Huawei USA unit, showing that it still sees opportunities to compete for service provider business in the U.S. market.

While it has struggled to win the business of large Tier 1 providers like Sprint (NYSE: S) over security concerns, Gerski will help the Chinese vendor pursue opportunities with Tier 3 telcos, rural electric cooperatives, and wireless Internet service providers (WISPs).
"Bill's relationship with the rural telcos, electrics and WISPs are perfect matches for Huawei's innovative solutions to meet continual growing customer needs," said Ming He, president of Huawei Technologies USA, in a release.
A 40-year technology and telecom industry executive, Gerski comes to Huawei USA with plenty of business development experience, with a particular focus on businesses that serve the rural telco market.
He comes to Huawei from Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH) where he served as a consultant. Dish has been pursuing the rural market with its Single Bill Solution program, which bundles satellite with its own existing services in one bill.
Earlier, he served as senior VP of marketing and sales for the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC) where he developed and led sales and marketing for all of the organization's video, electric, telephone and Internet products.
