Hurricane Electric adds PoPs in Milano and Vienna

Hurricane Electric on Thursday opened up two new Points of Presence (PoPs) in Milano, Italy and Vienna, Austria as part of its ongoing European network expansion effort.

The service provider said the new locations, which are located at Via Caldera 21 Building D, 20153 in Milano, Italy, and Interxion, located at Louis-Haefliger-Gasse 10, A-1210 in Vienna, Austria, will enable them to "improve fault tolerance, load balancing and congestion management in its IP connectivity services," including IPv6 traffic.

Since each of these PoPs will expand access through 10 GigE, 1 GigE, and 100BaseT network connections, Hurricane Electric will be able to reduce network latency and router hops for MIX and Interxion's traffic.

These new locations are part of the provider's broader network expansion strategy.

Over the past two years, it has expanded its network presence in the United States and various Asia Pacific countries including Japan and Singapore. It has also been working with related data center and competitive service providers such as Equinix (Nasdaq: EQIX), Telx and Zayo.
