By upgrading its Moscow backbone and network with the Infinera DTN-X, which includes 100G capabilities, Akado said it increased its total fiber capacity by more than four times. This will enable it to more rapidly deliver high capacity services.

Over its 18,000 km-plus fiber network, Akado provides a mix of residential Internet access, voice services and cable TV services and services to local businesses and government entities.

Being able to allocate higher speed bandwidth for business-grade services is a big driver of this deployment.

"With this solution we can rapidly scale network capacity to deliver reliable 10G, 40G and 100G services to meet the needs of both B2B and B2G customers of Akado Telecom, including banks, service providers and government organizations," said Vitaly Klishin, senior vice president at Akado Group, in a release.

While the Russian market has been a geographic growth area for Infinera, the vendor said during its second-quarter 2014 earnings call that it is being cautious of opportunities due to the conflicts between the Ukraine and Russia.

"We're staying mindful of the uncertainty and if anything in the last quarter that uncertainty in my mind has grown quite substantially," said Tom Fallon, CEO of Infinera, during the second-quarter earnings call, according to a Seeking Alpha transcript. "We continue to see opportunities in Russia and I continue to be growing more cautious on baking that into our forecast in the near-term."
