Infinera's DTN-X, DTN add OSMINE certification to gain appeal with Tier 1 users
Infinera (Nasdaq: INFN) on Friday completed Ericsson's (Nasdaq: ERIC) Operations Systems Modification for the Integration of Network Elements (OSMINE) Services process for its DTN-X and DTN platforms, a designation that will help it gain further appeal with RBOCs that are considering these platforms.
By completing the OSMINE process, Infinera will be able interoperate with U.S.-based Tier 1 telcos' back office systems. This means that the DTN-X and DTN platforms can more easily be deployed into their respective networks as they can communicate with the well-entrenched OSS systems that have been in place for decades.
One of the other benefits that Infinera's customers gain from the vendor completing the OSMINE process is it will help them in their migration to Optical Transport Networks (OTN).
The OTN-based OSMINE certification, including ODUflex capabilities such as the Infinera DTN-X and DTN, is based on an advanced architecture that integrates WDM transport and OTN switching including ODUflex/ODU0 granularity into one platform.
Despite dealing with strong competition from both Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) and Ciena (Nasdaq: CIEN), Infinera has emerged as a strong competitor in the United States and international optical markets. According to Dell'Oro's Q3 Optical Transport Report, Infinera accounts for 38 percent of the long-haul 100G ports sold.
New customer wins like CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) are also helping the company up its profile in the optical network market. The vendor was able to increase its status at CenturyLink as one of its suppliers for CenturyLink's 100G network deployment. Having OSMINE certification in hand will help up its status at CenturyLink and other Tier 1 telcos like AT&T (NYSE: T), Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and large Tier 2 operators like Frontier (Nasdaq: FTR), which is using its ATN product for its metro optical backbone network in its Pennsylvania market.
