InfoVista acquires Ipanema Technologies, boosts WAN optimization capabilities

InfoVista has acquired Ipanema technologies, a move that will immediately increase its ability to address WAN optimization issues for service providers' business customers.

In particular, InfoVista said the acquisition will enable service providers to help their businesses manage the placement of applications "across hybrid networks, together with the intensive migration of applications to the cloud."

Among the challenges that businesses face are the ability for the CIO to regain control of application usage, protect and align business-critical application performance with business productivity objectives, and meet users' quality of experience (QoE) expectations.

The company said the acquisition will provide benefits to both service providers and enterprises alike.

Service provider customers will be able to deliver application-aware network services to business customers transitioning to the hybrid WAN by achieving three goals: extending InfoVista's service assurance solution to the Internet network; accelerating time-to-market and maximizing monetization of their hybrid network services; and leveraging application performance guarantee solutions to further comply with application SLAs.

For enterprises, InfoVista said the combined company will be able to create visibility and an understanding of application behavior, which will in turn enable CIOs to control costs and enhance performance with new knowledge on three key spheres: making data-drive network investment decisions, while maximizing MPLS Internet connectivity return on investment; accelerating integrated and proactive problem identification, troubleshooting and control; and automatically managing, controlling and guaranteeing application performance over the hybrid WAN.

"Both Ipanema and InfoVista strongly share the conviction that CSPs must play the leading role in helping enterprises make the most of the new hybrid network and hybrid cloud paradigm," said Philippe Ozanian, CEO, InfoVista, in a release announcing the deal. "The two companies have also established a proven and successful technology partnership for several years. This makes us feel very confident in the benefits it will bring to our enterprise and CSP customers."

The WAN optimization market overall has been in a state of flux.

A recent Infonetics report revealed that while interest in optimizing the WAN via software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) is strong, the WAN optimization segment has yet to return to long-term growth.
