IP/MPLS Forum approves mobile backhaul spec

Tools

The IP/MPLS Forum announced progress in applying multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) technology to mobile backhaul infrastructures. The group approved its first technical specification as part of its MPLS in Mobile Backhaul Initiative (MMBI). Mobile carriers have been looking to move away from the costs and complexities associated with using traditional TDM-based leased lines for backhaul. The move to new backhaul options has been dragging despite the obvious benefits, so maybe the new spec can help mobile carriers and their backhaul providers make the technology migration.
