JDSU acquires Westover Scientific unit

Optical components and test firm JDS Uniphase Corp. is acquiring the fiber division of Westover Scientific for $50 million. The group tests and cleans optical fibers, a skill much in demand as telcos continue to invest in fiber upgrade projects. This is not the first time JDSU has made an acquisition focused on the particulars of fiber management and maintenance. The company also bought a similar firm, Test-Um back in May 2006, when telco FTTX ambitions were roadmapped but far less realized.
