Judge upholds telco immunity, dumps lawsuits
Almost one year after Congress legislated immunity for telcos in the federal wiretapping scandal, a federal judge has upheld the immunity law and also has dismissed dozens of lawsuits that were poised to pursue those telcos. The ruling also comes about eight months after the Electronic Frontier Foundation filed a legal challenge to the telco immunity law, and about three months after President Obama, who supported telco immunity while in Congress, asked the judge to uphold the law. It's unclear whether the latest ruling will hold--the EFF already is planning to appeal it.

Why didn't Congress reduce punative damages while allowing the lawsuits to proceed? Kudos to Dodd for taking a stand. I hope the appeal is successful. The truth will come out eventually.
Telco's certainly should be held responsible. One of the many problems is the RBOC'S have far too much leverage and immunity as is. The FCC needs to go after them and have them abide by the laws period. Not sure but I also believe it should be against the law for someone who was a employee of any of the RBOC'S to gain employment with either the FCC or LOcal PSC/PUC'S.
