Kentucky telco does IPTV

Mountain Telephone in West Liberty, Ky., has 17,000 bosses. That's because its 17,000 customers actually own the company, and what Mountain Telephone's bosses are demanding now is IPTV.

Like many telcos, the company had to weigh a variety of possible architectures against current and future capacity needs and costs. It elected to pursue capacity-rich transport over a fiber ring to copper-based DSL in the access realm. Many very small telcos may not be able to afford fiber-to-the-home just yet, but they know future service demand will one day lead them to an FTTH upgrade.
