Level 3 claims largest capacity win

Tools

Level 3 Communications has won what the company describes in a press release as the "largest single capacity commitment" in its history, a dedicated network wavelength deal supporting existing customer Telefonica International Wholesale Services of Spain.

It's a 10-year agreement to transport voice, data and Internet traffic for more than 250 million Telefonica customers from Europe and Latin America. Throughout the recent downturn, we have been hearing that bandwidth demand is not going to slow, and that this demand will require network operators to continue investing in their networks. Level 3's deal is at least one piece of evidence supporting those arguments, as well as a major boost in the comeback effort of a company that has long seemed well-poised to take advantage of bandwidth demand, but has also encountered other operational and financial difficulties along the way.
