Level 3 wraps its acquisition of tw telecom, enhances domestic and global reach

Level 3 has completed its acquisition of tw telecom, creating a company that will have a deeper domestic and global footprint to serve multi-site businesses.

As a combined company, the new Level 3 will be able to provide its growing mix of enterprise, government and wholesale customers with an even broader mix of IP and Ethernet-based services that will be supported by both its global network and growing North American metro network footprint.

"The combination of tw telecom's rich metro footprint with Level 3's global network positions the company to provide local-to-global business solutions and deliver a world-class customer experience," said Jeff Storey, president and CEO of Level 3, in a release.

Both service providers will now be able to address customers that are enhancing their presence in either North America or are expanding into North America from various international regions such as Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Latin America with access to into more than 30,000 on-net fiber buildings.

At the same time, the service provider will have a broader portfolio of Ethernet, security and VPN offerings that can address larger business customers' needs.

Completing this acquisition also bodes well for Level 3 overall as it will increase its North America enterprise revenue from about 65 to 70 percent of the region's total revenue. While it won't announce third-quarter earnings until Nov. 5, Level 3 reported in the second quarter that the enterprise Core Network Services (CNS) segment rose 11 percent to $984 million.
