Maine forces FairPoint to provide customer rebates

Tools

Just days after it put its financial restructuring plans in place, FairPoint's Maine customers may finally get a rebate to ease their painful service experience with the beleaguered telco.

This latest requirement comes after Maine's Public Utilities Commission (PUC) ordered FairPoint to lower its voice rates by $1.72 per month three times since last October. Instead, the ILEC proposed that it would rebate customers.

Although it was not revealed how much customers will receive in rebates, customers won't see anything right away since the FairPoint settlement still requires Maine's PUC approval, a process that could take about 120 days. Given the ongoing issues that FairPoint has in serving both wholesale and residential customers, it's likely the Maine PUC will grant the order.

I hope Fairpoint pays these rebates and starts fixing its problems. Apparently they are still plagued with issues. My mother and her surrounding neighbors phones worked off and on for 3 weeks and they fixed that problem, 2 weeks later they were back out working on the same equipment with a different issue causing problems for the same customers connected in that area. This seems to be a never-ending issue.
