Mediacom brings fiber connection to University of Northern Iowa's Metal Casting Center

Mediacom Business has installed a high-capacity fiber connection at the University of Northern Iowa's (UNI) Metal Casting Center on the TechWorks Campus in downtown Waterloo. The new network connection will be able to support the higher bandwidth demands students and manufacturers will need in preparing CAD documents in conjunction with Hawkeye Community College for 3D printing. The facility houses the largest sand mold 3D design printer in the country, and is installing three new 3D printers over the next several months using a variety of media.

Randy Pilkington, director of business and community Services for UNI, said that by "partnering with Mediacom Business, we'll receive the high-capacity broadband necessary to make this happen."

Mediacom Business and UNI are hardly strangers. Previously, Mediacom provided 5 Gbps of fiber-based connectivity to a TechWorks Campus StartUp event last November. Release
