MegaPath broadens SIP trunking offerings, separates trunk from access
Business service provider MegaPath has augmented its SIP trunking offerings with a new Enterprise Trunking service for multi-location businesses and standalone SIP trunking for single-location businesses that can be purchased with or without MegaPath's broader array of access services.
The move will help extend SIP trunking capabilities to smaller businesses at a time when many of them are starting to seek enterprise-class services, and many service providers are starting to look for a competitive edge by broadening their offerings for the small business market.
The SIP trunking market opportunity seemed to balloon over the last year as more businesses looked to use VoIP as a low-cost strategy to continue supporting PBX capabilities as they have expanded. MegaPath's Enterprise Trunking option allows businesses to consolidate connectivity and services at multiple locations to a single service provider, which likely will result in a lower cost than if they would have paid multiple service providers to maintain multiple locations.
MegaPath's flexibility to allow customers to "bring your own broadband connection" when using MegaPath's SIP trunking offering potentially could open it up to opportunities with businesses that can't or are not willing to part with a particular connectivity provider. However, MegaPath stressed that buying a whole package from MegaPath will allow the company to provide better security and reliability because it would manage both the SIP trunk and the broadband connection.
