MegaPath plays to mobile business workers' needs with new hybrid mobile/wireline UC capabilities

MegaPath Cloud Services is playing into the mobile nature of its business customers by adding SMS Text Messaging and mobile-to-desktop-device handover to its Unified Communications (UC) service.

The company said that these improvements will enable its customers to immediately connect with customers, partners and colleagues over various wireline and wireless media.

With the SMS Text Messaging feature, users can send SMS texts within the UC desktop and mobile clients using their business VoIP phone number versus their personal mobile number. The SMS Texting feature is integrated with a business' directory, allowing users to send and receive individual and group texts across any of their devices.

For workers who switch between using their desktop and mobile devices throughout the day, the device handover from mobile to desktop UC clients allows UC customers to move a call from one device to another without the need to hang up and call back.

The final feature included in this latest upgrade is Voice Manager Integration, which allows users to access the Voice Manager tool from within the MegaPath UC client. Voice Manager enables Hosted Voice users to listen to voicemails, read transcribed voicemails, manage greetings, manage audio conferences, configure custom profiles and easily manage call routing and other settings to suit their needs.

"Features like SMS Texting and Device Handover give our UC customers even more freedom of mobility by offering additional ways to collaborate instantly and efficiently using their business VoIP number on any device," said Kurt Hoffman, president and CEO of Cloud Services for MegaPath, in a release.

This is the first service announcement that MegaPath has made since it sold off its managed services business to GTT and earlier its wholesale division to Global Capacity.

These new features reflect the company's new focus on the cloud services and managed services segments, two that it believes are high growth markets.
