MegaPath targets PBX customers with cloud-based video conferencing

MegaPath on Thursday announced it has added cloud-delivered unified communications (UC) video services to its portfolio for existing hosted PBX customers, enabling cloud-based video collaboration.

Set on driving ease of use, the new video service will use plug-and-play Polycom (Nasdaq: PLCM) desktop voice and video solutions, which have been road-tested in various UC&C deployments by a number of competitive and traditional telcos.

Supporting high-definition (HD) point-to-point video services for its hosted PBX customers, the new service can transform a combination of Polycom's VVX 500 and 600 Business Media Phones and its VVX Camera into a video collaboration environment.

Running over an existing VoIP network, users will be able to join a video conference by plugging the 720p HD video camera into the integrated USB port at the top of the phone. The new service does not require new software drivers, and it complements MegaPath's face-to-face video collaboration platform that uses the Polycom VVX 1500 Business Media Phone.

In addition, MegaPath is supporting Polycom's new VVX 300 and VVX 400 business phones as part of its Hosted Voice solution, which allows a business customer to consolidate all of its communications services with one service provider while forgoing the cost and management of a premises-based PBX.

MegaPath's introduction of the video service comes at a time when the CLEC is building up three key service sets: cloud, Ethernet, and IP-based services such as SIP trunking for the SMB market.
