MegaPath's IP5280 acquisition bolsters its Colorado, New Mexico footprint

MegaPath has instantly upped its presence in both the Colorado and New Mexico markets by purchasing Denver-based hosted VoIP provider IP5280 Communications.

Being both privately-held companies, neither MegaPath nor IP5280 revealed the terms of the deal.

Like its previous acquisitions of Speakeasy and Covad, Dan Foster, MegaPath's president of Business Markets, said, "This acquisition helps strengthen our IP footprint and provides their customers with a broader suite of services."

IP5280's 1,000-plus SMB customers will gain access to a whole suite of data services (DSL, traditional T1, DS3 and Ethernet) and managed nationwide MPLS-based security and private networking services.

All of IP5280's employees, including their co-founders and managing partners John Scarborough and Jeffrey Pearl, will join MegaPath once the deal is completed.

Scarborough, a 22-year telecom industry veteran, told The Denver Post that being acquired by MegaPath will enable it to "support the requirements of our customers."

"The technology changes very quickly in the IP space," he said. "In order for us to fulfill our mission to become a national premier provider of voice over IP services beyond just being here in the region of Colorado and New Mexico, it became very self-evident that we needed to partner with someone with the deeper resources and the expertise."
