MoCA jolts home networks

Tools

The Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) approved its latest release, which boosts throughput and improves quality-of-service mechanisms supporting premium content delivered over the home network wiring specification. The home network environment is at the center of a major contest between at least four different wiring technologies--besides MoCA, the other three would include HomePNA, HomePlug and Wi-Fi.

MoCA has garnered support from Verizon Communications and others, while some industry watchers have suggested that broadband service providers may come to rely on a mix of home wiring technologies on a case-by-base basis. The debate is sure to fire up again at next week's TelcoTV conference in Atlanta.
