Motorola deepens FTTH presence with rural telcos

Tools

With over 1 million BPON and GPON Optical Network Terminals (ONT) shipped as of October 2009, it's safe to say that Motorola is no longer a newcomer in the Fiber to the Home market. One segment that's tuning to Motorola's FTTH channel is the U.S. rural independent ILEC market.

Proof of its growing presence in the rural telco market was on display this week as Oklahoma-based Medicine Park Telephone Company announced that it will deploy Motorola's GPON for its FTTH broadband network in the town's Granite Ridge area--one of the first in OK to get FTTH service. Over their FTTH network, Medicine Park plans to deliver not only high-speed data, but also RF-based video.

Given the challenges of targeting the rural telco opportunities--one that's diverse in terms of size and needs--Motorola is not going it alone. Instead, Motorola has established a distributor relationship with Power & Tel to target rural telco FTTH opportunities.
