MRV Communications has tapped Mark Bonney to be its next president and CEO effectively immediately, replacing Dave Stehlin, who is stepping down to pursue other interests.

Stehlin came to MRV in 2011 where he initially served as the company's senior vice president of sales and marketing after serving in marketing stints at Overture Networks and Ceterus Networks.

Bonney's appointment may be new, but he's hardly a stranger to MRV, having served as a member on the vendor's board since April 2013 and as executive vice president and CFO since August.

He brings more than 30 years of experience in managing turnarounds of various technology companies in the U.S. and internationally, including experience in optical companies. Before arriving at MRV, he served as the president and CEO of On Board Advisors LLC, a strategic and financial advisory firm.

Earlier, he was president, COO and director at Axsys Technologies, a manufacturer of optical components and subsystems, and CFO and vice president of operations at Zygo Corporation, a manufacturer of metrology measurement and control systems and optical components.

"Mark has an impressive record of accomplishment in managing turnarounds, growth and strategic transactions," said Kenneth Traub, chairman of MRV, in a release. "The entire board is confident he brings the right skills and discipline to execute our strategic plans focused on maximizing shareholder value. We would like to thank David Stehlin and wish him well in all of his future endeavors."
