New York ousts sex offenders from MySpace, Facebook

Online predators may be a relatively new form of criminal, but New York is taking no chances. The state disabled over 3,500 registered sex offenders' Facebook and MySpace accounts. Out of the 8,000 registered sex offenders that have given their e-mail addresses to the state about half of them had a MySpace or Facebook account.

This latest crackdown reflects New York's Electronic Security and Targeting of Online Predators Act (e-STOP). Under the e-STOP act, sex offenders have to reveal not only their physical mailing address, but also their e-mail addresses. What's more, the e-STOP act, which was signed into law by New York Gov. David Paterson last year, prevents any sex offender accused of sexually abusing a minor from being able to access social networking sites.

I commend the State of New York for implementing e-STOP.

This is a big step in the right direction. Keep up the great job! You have implemented a realistic safety net for so many kids and other people. There is more to be done, keep up your stride. Include the IP address (easily obtained and monitored) of each offenders internet connection and widen this safety net to restrict the influence of the sexual offender's online destructive presence.

A forum administrator has full access to all user name's IP address and each email they use for each user name. They can 'easily' keep track of the IP's and make sure a permanent and complete ban is issued on each of the offenders with the information reported to them by LE.
