New Zealand outage leaves 500,000 without broadband

New Zealand national telco Telecom experienced a broadband network outage late last week that caused service disruptions to about 500,000 customers on the telco's national network. The Friday night outage reportedly was caused by a power fault at an exchange in Auckland, and service was out for at least seven to eight hours for some customers.

The company's customer service policies do not call for customer compensation unless an outage lasts for more than 24 hours, but you can bet Telecom will be hearing from some customers who want to challenge that policy.
