NH cable operators' phone service will soon face state telco regulations

If you're a cable MSO like Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) and Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) offering voice services in New Hampshire, you'll soon be facing the same state regulatory scrutiny that other area providers like FairPoint (Nasdaq: FRP) and TDS Telecom (NYSE: TDS) face.

The New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission (PUC) said on Wednesday that cable operators will have to work with the PUC's consumer affairs division to rectify customer issues.

Of course, Comcast was quick to protest the new regulatory requirements.

Marc Goodman, a Comcast spokesman, said in a Bangor Daily News article that "Xfinity Digital Voice service is subject to federal oversight, and we do not believe additional state regulation is necessary."
