Nokia Siemens Networks intros new compact 40G optical platform

Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has announced what it calls the most compact and cost-efficient 40Gbps platform in the industry.  Release 4.25 of the company's hiT 7300 system can put 40 Gbps into seven modules per sub-rack.

Under the new release, there is also a single blade ADM (Add-Drop Multiplexers) supporting standard point-to-connections, along with all topologies needed for broadcasts, multicasts and all common aggregation applications, such as mobile backhaul. There is also an optimal PMDC to assist older, lower-quality or stressed fibers achieve up to three times their current reach. Due to its small size, the platform requires no additional transponder shelf.

A press release touting the new hardware says the new platform simplifies networks, reducing network elements, rental space and power consumption while increasing reliability, for lower operational costs. The new hiT 7300 can help generate revenue by supporting applications such as HD video on demand and IPTV,
